Graz moves Europe – Europe moves Graz

In advance of the informal meeting of environment and transport ministers, the Austrian Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism and the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology extend an invitation to a special event on the main square (Hauptplatz) in Graz. This public event, which is entitled “Graz moves Europe – Europe moves Graz”, focuses entirely on clean mobility and sustainability.

Joint informal ministerial meeting

Transport and mobility are key areas for both climate protection and a sustainable environment and transport policy. How can we achieve the shift towards clean and safe mobility that is low in carbon emissions?

In their joint meeting on 30 October, the ministers will discuss the challenges, solutions and strategies in this respect.

On 29 October, the environment ministers will come together for a working level meeting that focuses on the future of the European environment policy and in particular on the question of a future 8th EU Environment Action Programme.

The programme will be complemented by visits to Austrian waste management and transport companies that are regarded as models for innovation.

Time does not stand still, or does it? At their informal meeting on 29 October, the EU transport ministers will take up the question of abolishing daylight saving time. In a survey carried out by the European Commission, more than 80% of participants voted for the end of the bi‑annual clock change.

On 30 October, the agenda will feature a discussion on road safety improvements in Europe, which is in keeping with the motto of the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the EU: “A Europe that protects”.

In the course of their stay in Graz the EU transport ministers will also visit the site of automotive supplier MAGNA International.
