Austria Contemporary
On the invitation of the European Economic and Social Committee, the exhibition Austria Contemporary is displaying a small yet representative selection of works from the collection of contemporary Austrian art of the Republic of Austria.
All exhibited pieces are from the Austrian Federal Government’s Artothek, the institution which has taken care of the artworks acquired as purchases to promote art. The holdings in the Federal Government collection currently number about 37,000 works from all fields of the visual arts. In their entirety, they provide an exemplary documentation of artistic work in Austria.
Austria Contemporary focuses in particular on works created in recent times, offering insights into working methods and style trends in contemporary art. By way of example, current positions from the contemporary discourse in the arts are presented, with different approaches and ideas standing side by side on an equal footing.
The opening of the exhibition features the duo Aliada, part of the NASOM (New Austrian Sound of Music) Programme 2016/2017. Michał Knot (saxophone) and Bogdan Laketic (accordion) bring a fresh breeze into classical and baroque music with their unusual combination of instruments.
Opens: 11 July 2018, 19:00
Duration of exhibition: 12 July until 14 September 2018
